GALVANIZED steel has a matt grey finish, and will turn darker over time. The matt finish is created by a protective barrier of zinc to the wire, giving it a resistance to corrosion. A technique used for over 150 years to protect steel from outdoor exposure of weather, wind, wear and tear.
